Ouch! Looking for Relief from Wrist Pain?

Our wrists… they seem like the gatekeepers to everything related to our hands and upper bodies.  The use of technology, texting, typing, using a mouse, along with other repetitive movements like lifting babies and children, even driving, are taking a toll on our wrists.  Sometimes this feels like an impediment to our yoga practice.  Proper alignment of the wrists and shoulders as well as poses that strengthen shoulders and the upper back can actually help to fortify and alleviate our wrists and supporting body parts to make our bodies feel better, not only in yoga, but in our everyday life.

Marla Apt, in her article for Yoga International titled “Wrist Relief: 6 Poses for RSI (Repetitive Stress Injury)” writes, “Yoga can help heal RSI in the wrists by working on alignment in the upper body, so that the larger muscles in this region can better support and guide movements of the elbows, wrists, and hands.”

She describes poses that can be practiced regularly for wrist pain sufferers, some of which you’ll probably find are regularly incorporated into many classes at Blue Heron Wellness, like Urdhva Hastasana (Upward Hands Pose) and Hands and Knees Pose (Table).
