Teacher Highlight: Meet Yogi Kati Gimes

1) How would you describe your teaching style?
It's hard to define. I definitely use elements of traditional hatha and some flow. But mainly Iyengar style with longer held poses. It's a mix of integrating breath and movement, awareness and alignment, strength and flexibility that helps to melt away self-limiting beliefs about what the student can or can't do. I also teach Kundalini yoga.
2) What words of encouragement do you have for a student trying to grow their practice?
Be patient, persistent and accepting of your own limitations.
3) What is your favorite pose and why?
Adho mukha vrksasana - hand stand. If I can kick-up no matter how tired I was it picks me up. Love being upside down.
4) What is the most remarkable event you've witnessed in a yoga class?
I witnessed this so many times: we're working towards a challenging peak pose. I can see it on the faces, feel it in the air: "I'll never be able to do this" and all of a sudden it just happens. Big smile, sense of accomplishment sometimes accompanied with a weird sound one or multiple students give out as they just did it!

I translated Anthony Bourdain's book Kitchen Confidential to Hungarian.
