Summer Solstice: Refreshing Circular Flow with Emily Star Sat, Jun 24, 2017 at 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
At the summer solstice, the sun offers the northern hemisphere long stretches of daylight and heat. And if you study, teach or work in schools (or have family members who do), you might be facing a few months of a different weekly rhythm. How will you recharge during this expansive time? In this workshop, we'll have time to journal about our desires for the summer months and move through a balancing and strengthening circular flow that includes cooling breathwork and some yin postures to tame any excess pitta (overly fiery nature). After practice, all are welcome to stay for tea to share insights, challenges, and summer plans and recipes!
Cost: $35 early sign up or $40 drop in.
Sunday Evening Meditation Workshop with Peter Mosher Sun, Jun 25, 2017 at 6:45 pm - 8:00 pm
Meditation is a means of transforming the mind to reduce anxiety and induce a calm state. Meditation is an effective form of stress reduction and can improve health and quality of living when practiced regularly. We are offering you the opportunity to begin or enhance your meditation practice regularly at Blue Heron with gatherings on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. It is a great way to transition from your weekend by setting the tone for your week ahead. Come be part of our meditation community and share in this uplifting group energy.

The meditations will be guided by Peter Mosher who has been leading meditation for over 40 years. He draws from a number of traditions to find inspiration and ways to effectively build and deepen. At the core of these practices is mindful loving kindness for oneself and others.

There is no set fee for these practices. Following the Eastern tradition of Dana, a free will offering is requested, a suggested amount being $12, more if you can less if necessary. Please note that if you sign up online you can not edit the cost, but must select $10 $12 or $15. Please call ahead or come to the front desk to select a different amount.

As we move into this slow and deep practice our focus will be on connecting to the ‘Inner Teacher’ who resides in that place of nurturing stillness within all of us, setting the stage for meditation and contemplative practices.

This workshop is suitable for all levels of yogis. Pre-registration recommended. $20 per session.

Dancing Starfish: Explore Your Range of Motion with Shannon Dunne Sun, Jul 16, 2017 at 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Join Shannon, longtime dancer and yogi, for a chance to move your body in new ways. Move off your yoga mat as you connect with your body, regain full range of motion and balance, relieve stress or injury, or explore a greater sense of play and expression!

We are born with a balanced body, like starfish, with 5 equal points, balanced and agile. As we learn to move against gravity, outside stressors create limitations, and we lose our natural child-like sense of play and balance. Shannon will guide you through a series of movement explorations, echoing human development (including play!) that help the body relax and repattern so that students can re-learn how to move more freely in everyday life.

Friday Night Zen: Restorative Yoga to Calm and Reset with Stephanie Hurter Fri, Jul 28, 2017 at 7:45 pm - 9:00 pm
In our fast paced world, our nervous system tends to operate on overdrive fueling a felt sense of internal fatigue, disconnection, and anxiety. Restorative yoga has been shown to help the body rebalance by activating the parasympathetic (or rest and digest) part of the nervous system. Such activation not only calms the mind, but also enables the body to relax leading to deeper self-awareness, more beneficial sleep, improved immune functioning, and even weight loss at times. Poses are held for 5-10 minutes on the floor and props are used to allow the body to completely release into each pose. Through the sequence of poses, the body is encouraged to open up and rebalance. Essential oils will also be used throughout the class to further enhance release and restoration. Come find your zen!
