Blue Heron Wellness is now a local campus of Breathing Deeply School of Yoga Therapy.  Breathing Deeply School of Yoga Therapy provides an online learning experience for Yoga Therapy while we, Blue Heron Wellness, in our yoga studios under the direction of Kathy Page, provide the opportunity to build the community environment with other students from Breathing Deeply. The program is designed to certify you to work with individuals using the yoga therapy model.

Course Content
The main part of this course will be delivered in 52 online lectures (see course outline). You’ll have three different ways to complete the course work:

1) Take these classes at home. They will also be available for you online 24/7, allowing you to take them anytime or if you miss any of our sessions.
2) The Yoga Therapy Training group will meet at our studio to discuss and review lectures as a group, and work on applying the concepts. These groups will be facilitated by Blue Heron Wellness Teacher, Kathy Page.
3) Additional and informal meetings with other students in the training may be organized by the participants (may occur at Blue Heron Wellness, space availability permitting).

This unique online/in-studio hybrid will give you the support you need to complete the course and truly understand the material.

Weekly Q&As with Brandt
There is also a community Facebook forum for all trainees to ask questions that arise at anytime. You will also receive a weekly, live, online, group Q&A with Brandt to delve deeper into material and questions. These weekly times change according to the group’s needs.

Weekend Retreats
There are 3 weekend retreats as part of the course certification. These retreats will be held just above New York City in Garrison, New York at the beautiful Garrison Institute and are offered 3 times per year. 

Completion and Certification
You may begin and complete this course at any time. There are 4 requirements to certification.
1) Completion of all 52 online lectures and coursework
2) Attendance of 3 weekend retreats or equivalent
3) Completion of 2 papers outlining case studies
4) Oral and written exam 

Prerequisite
This course is open to all yoga teachers at a 200 hour level or equivalent from any tradition.

About Brandt Passalaqua
Brandt Passalacqua is the creator of Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy. He has been enjoying Yoga and the healing arts since 2002 after overcoming obesity and a life-threatening autoimmune illness. His personal journey serves as an inspiration to countless others and informs his compassionate, humorous, and down-to-earth teaching style.  His practice integrates a background of Yoga Therapy in the tradition of Krishnamacharya and Structural Yoga Therapy, Thai Yoga Massage, Medical Massage, a variety of meditation lineages, and plain-old common sense to help people realize their goals.

WHAT IS YOGA THERAPY?

Yoga therapy is a relatively new method of healing born out of an ancient tradition.

Yoga has been around for over 1000 years. The idea of using yoga in a therapeutic context has been credited to Tirumalai Krishnamacharya who died in 1981 at the age of 100.

We can think of yoga therapy the same way we might think of other healing systems, such as chinese medicine. We have a system that helps us identify various imbalances in a person and then we offer techniques to bring those aspects into balance. A Yoga Therapist uses various techniques to help a person find balance and heal such as movement (asana), breath work (pranayama), chanting, philosophy or point of view, and meditation to name a few.

Yoga Therapists work with the system of yoga to treat specific conditions. Some examples may include physical pain (back pain, shoulder injuries), anxiety disorders, cancer support, PTSD, insomnia, depression, autoimmune diseases, addiction, obesity, the list goes on. Yoga therapy can act as a useful adjunct to the western medical model, or as a stand alone therapy depending on the condition and/or the skill and experience of the Yoga Therapist.

Tuition Payment Options & Information

Option 1: Pay in Full ($2,495)

Option 2: 10 Month Plan $275/month for 10 months ($2,750)
Option 3: 20 Month Plan $149/month for 20 months ($2,980)

Tuition includes online portion of the course, live Q&A’s, and access to BDYT community indefinitely.

All tuition plans are non-refundable. Accepting an extended payment plan is a contract to pay the full amount due. Retreats are billed separately. 

Your  total cost investment for this program includes, tuition, retreats, a one time $250 final exam testing fee due at time of your certification test and a campus fee of $300, paid once for 12 months, that is assessed separately.

What is the Local Campus Experience?

The campus program adds a unique component to an online program. The in-studio experience is designed to provide students with a community in which to learn, share and practice the information and skills presented in the online Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy program.  The in-studio meetings are held monthly on Saturdays beginning January 21, 2017.  Other scheduled dates are:

Meet The Campus Facilitator


Kathy Page, a graduate of Blue Heron Wellness Yoga Teacher Training program and an active participant in Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy program, will facilitate the 2017 Campus Program.  Kathy enjoys sharing her love of yoga with others by teaching group and private classes in the Montgomery County area. She teaches specialty classes for Seniors and Special Needs Adults as well. Her classes are infused with therapeutic elements to help prevent injuries and bring students to better well-being. Her current work with clients on an individual basis moves them to their overall wellness goals.
